Everybody hates Un’Goro Crater, but that’s the best place to be in the 50’s until you can move on to the Silithus desert (http://www.wowwiki.com/Winterspring).
If you go to Winterspring, be sure to do the rep quests in Felwood to get through the tunnel easily.

Go to the Plaguelands (preferably Eastern Plaguelands) then when you hit level 58 go to Outland right away, you get better XP for quests and way more money too

These folks have given good answers. I’ll add that websites such as list zones by level so that you can easily figure out where to go next. As a hunter – make sure you’re beastmaster specced.

You could do Western Plaguelands and possibly Eastern Plaguelands until you get to level 58, then head straight to Outland.

My favorite thing to do in that level range is to get 30 of all the argent dawn turn ins and complete those quests in EPL, Lights Hope Chapel. You get like…10k from each turn in for 50k total, 30k each refer a friend which rocks. Its not 2 levels, but its a cheap chunk. However sometimes the items are up really high on the AH.

There might be 6… I think it is just those though. Been a while since I played a below 60.
Also a place a lot of people no longer quest in is Silithis. There are a lot of easy quests. I tend to go there when I have exhausted my other zones (rarely happens but it does). Ungoro is way too low, most quests will be green, the zones 48-53 rec. I also like winterspring, especially if you are a miner (good amounts of thorium).
As far as what spec, you dont have to be BM lol. I have a hunter I dink around on here and there and went Marks at 58 and also played a survival hunter in MC/BWL and Hyjal/BT. Im leveling faster. Depends on your play style and skill. BM is the easiest mode of the easiest class in the game.
