Also don't say do this cause you you waste less mana, that is not a problem to me because I'm leveling with another friend and we will be questing al the way to 70.

For fast leveling I would advise you to go to and look for the world of warcraft add-ons called Carbonite Quest or Quest Helper. They are really usefull because they show which quest from questlist is closer to you and point you the way on a minimap. Pick which you like best (not both
)
About the mage: I leveled as frost because I had to keep mobs away in range as much as possible. The slower they reach you, the better … and besides that you have a talen in frost tree that sometimes procs on a frost bolt and snares the target (same as frost nova). You also have an Ice shield and you got the water elemental you will use later on (after lvl 50). Fire spec mages do more damage ofc, but you’d have a hard time slowing down mobs from reaching you while you level.
At level 70 you might go fire for PvE raiding; Frost for PvP (battleground and Arena). There is a possibility on beeing heavyly arcane spec for PvE only, but for that build you require items with tons of intellect
