If you've stumbled upon this you're probably searching for a helpful resource that just might help you decide how to go about your time in Azeroth. I've got some good news for you; you're in the right place to find out!
First off, you will need to create a character, if you have already done so skip to the next paragraph, if not, read on. A character will be either alliance of horde faction, meaning you will team with members of the side of your character and fight together against the side you aren't on. Each race can only be certain classes but both factions have enough races so that you can create any class you desire. You can choose from a druid, hunter, mage, paladin, priest, shaman, warlock or warrior.
Making your first levels: A guide on starting out in WoW wouldn't really be complete without telling you that quests are the staple diet of a leveler in WoW. You should make every effort you can to complete all of the quests you find as they not only provide excellent experience through the entire game but also get lower level characters their first pieces of GEAR... this will make you tougher to kill, do more damage etc.
I also suggest that early on you pick up a trade skill that compliments your character. For example, a mage may benefit from tailoring, a warrior form blacksmithing. You could also pick a trade skill that I always recommend: alchemy. Alchemy is beneficial to all classes as it provides potions that increase various stats, as well as enabling you to make your own health and mana restoring potions.
Social networking: WoW is first and foremost an MMO, an online subculture of our world with a massive amount of individuals logged on at any one time. Early on you should look to make new friends your level to work with. You should also join a friendly guild that you find perhaps from grouping with a member or a guild who advertises that it's purpose is to help all levels level up and have fun (as opposed to a guild focused on end game raiding for example). This will ensure that during those times when you want to run dungeons for better loot than that provided by quests, or if you have a quest you can't do on your own, you'll have someone to call on for help.
